Back From The NYCC.

the title is a reference to the song "back in the USSR".  hum it in your head now.  thank you.

SO.  NYCC.  A pretty interesting learning experience as my first BIG con.  I met some really great people.  Made some great contacts.  Laughed to myself as several people lied to my face and generally tried to enjoy myself.  Although, I'm admittedly not a fan of large crowds.  Fighting my way through stopped "traffic" so 8 people can get a picture of someone in a Hulk costume is not my idea of a good time.  Hot, stinky nerds.  Doesn't anyone use deodorant?

Two big shoutouts.  First to Jay from Unstoppable Comics for helping me keep my head up when the chips were down.  AND BOY WERE THEY DOWN.  He had some great tips and offered his advice and resources when it came to self publishing.  Just an all around great guy.  I learned something about myself as well.  It's difficult to walk around a comic convention, pitching your story to people who don't care and don't want to hear it.  It takes a little something extra from inside to put yourself out there like that.  I deal with rejection ok.. it's just multiple rejections all in a row that tend to get me down.  Regardless, I spoke with Jay and he said I shouldn't feel discouraged.  Then he threatened to kick me in balls if I didn't turn my attitude around.  It worked.  Thanks Jay.

Next shoutout is for MD Perkins - Author of BEWARE for 215Ink.  Man, this guy took the time to listen to me.  I really appreciate that.  He seemed genuine and like a really great guy.  I picked up his book and told him about the video game I'm scripting.  (His book is also a retro Sci-Fi story)  Anyway, day 2 of NYCC, he told me that the 215 guys had been discussing my book.  Probably too much to hope for, but I like to think that it's true.  Thanks Mike!

Had dinner at BLT Steak and met Paul (Hell's Kitchen winner for this season).  He was nice but seemed tired of being asked to meet people and have his picture taken with them.  I kinda felt bad about it.  I really like NYC.  It's such a great place for a writer.  The history there is astounding and all over the place.  The room next to ours in the New Yorker Hotel is where Nikola Tesla lived for 10 years and eventually died.  The man at the front desk told us that our room (which was the smallest goddamned hotel room ever) was actually a part of his apartment at the time.  Very cool.  Minimally creepy.  Definite 1408 vibe in that hotel though.  I'm going to have to come up with a Tesla Ghost story now.  I kinda can't stop thinking about it.  My only real complaint about NYC was the constant honking of traffic.  I guess you tune it out after a while, but over a couple of days, that's a fucklot of honking.

Looks like I snagged a spot writing comic book reviews for http://mycomicblog.com

I'll keep you updated.  I submitted a review for Pain and Prejudice - the first in a 5 part mini series.  A new Penguin origin for the New 52 DC line.  pretty great book.  I'll link the review when it pops up.

And I'm still working the Jetpack Jack video game (I mentioned above).

As far as Interface goes - I know it's been a while since I updated this crapblog.  I finished the first story arc (12 issues) and received 5 of 6 finished pages from Alex Pascenko.  To prep for NYCC I put together a zine (Thanks KELSEY) with samples or artwork, scripting, character profiles, a bio for myself and "making of" story on how I came up with the concept and what the book is all about.  I passed out as many as I could and Stacy helped a ton.  Next step is submitting to publishers while working on getting the art colored and lettered.

tired of typing now.  k bye.  xoxox
